Background & Context

Goldman Plumbing Services delivered the replacement of the steam boiler plant at Austin Health, working in the hospital's boiler house on a live, occupied Melbourne site.

The Engineering Challenge

Goldman removed the redundant plant and installed new packaged boilers, burners, economisers and flues together with the associated steam and water pipework, the valve and header manifold, and the electrical and controls. The major items — the boilers, burner assemblies and stainless-steel flues — were rigged and craned into the plant room over the hospital roof, then set, connected and aligned in position.

Scope of works included: Removal and disposal of redundant boiler plant; Rigging and crane lifts of the new boilers, burners and flues into the boiler house; Installation of steam and feedwater pipework, valves and the distribution manifold; Burner, economiser and flue installation; Electrical, controls and BMS field works; Testing, commissioning and handover while maintaining steam supply to the hospital throughout.

Structured Delivery Approach

Services provided: Mechanical and hydraulic installation; rigging and cranage; boiler and burner installation; electrical and controls; testing and commissioning; principal-contractor site management on a live hospital site.

Final Handover & Results

A full boiler-house upgrade delivered in an operating hospital, with new plant safely craned in over the roof and commissioned with minimal disruption to essential services.
